The Hugvie Japan

The Hugvie

The latest fad coming to Japan, combining cuteness and technology, is the Hugvie, a human-shaped pillow with a skin-like texture, with slot in its head for a mobile phone. The user then carries on a conversation with a friend while hugging the soft robot.

The Hugvie comes equipped with a micro-controller and two vibrating discs that simulate the caller’s heartbeat, depending on the tone of their voice.

Many studies have shown that physical contact, even with inanimate objects, decreases cortisol levels – a hormone associated with stress.

If you want a Hugvie of your own, it will be on sale for 10,000 yen (around $80) in Japan, starting in September.
